Read the package role and the test that distinguishes it from a normal launch.
Choose Gale if its profile and configuration workflow suits the way you organize packages. Its role is managing an installation; launching the manager does not by itself create a new kingdom feature or validate a plugin.
Keep the active setup clear
Select 9 Kings, inspect the configured game location, and create a small profile. Before installing anything else, identify which package supplies the actual feature and which package is only its loader. These two roles are easy to confuse in a short community listing.
Compare workflows without overlapping files
r2modman is another available manager. Use one workflow for your first test rather than treating two managers as two compatibility layers. A second profile in another app may not reproduce the manually copied files in the game directory.
The useful comparison is whether you can find the package, inspect its requirements, launch the intended profile and return to a known baseline. A recent manager release cannot answer whether an old plugin survived a game patch.
Recover a test profile
Disable the last package installed and launch the same profile again. If the issue persists, compare with your preserved baseline and inventory any manual files. Keep the failing profile long enough to record package versions and configuration before deleting it.
